Even when Halloween isn’t right around the corner, you can still start planning for it. Some people really love to dress up, and they take their kids out to get candy or they go to parties and have a lot of fun with their friends. If you’re the type of person who likes your kids to really look great for Halloween and who has a lot of fun dressing up, too, you might be interested in looking for costumes any time of year. Many people have several costumes to choose from when the holiday comes around, and they’re always on the hunt for new ones they can wear.

In order to find great Halloween costumes, you’ll want to shop early. That way, you won’t see something great and go to order it, only to find that it has been sold out and you won’t be getting it after all. That’s a very frustrating thing to deal with, whether the costume is for you or your kids, so avoid it by ordering early. Even if the costume does happen to be sold out, you’ll have a lot more chance for it to come back in stock before you need it. You’ll also have more chance to look for something else and find a great option.

Halloween only comes around once a year, and there’s no reason why you shouldn’t live it up and have a great time. If you miss out just because you didn’t get a costume, that would really disappoint people who were counting on having fun with you. If your kids don’t get to head out asking for candy, they’ll be pretty upset, too. Take the time to shop around and find some great costumes that you’ll all be proud of, so you can have the fun of experiencing Halloween together.

Children’s Toys and Gender

Toys and Gender

Choosing your child’s toys based on his or her gender is a controversial topic in parenting. Previously it was always thought that a very young child would automatically receive dolls and stuffed animals if it was a she, and a boy would surely get trucks and cars. However, some parents and experts say that the toys given to a child can actually help determine that child’s sexual identity, and shape their sex role for the rest of their lives. A few years ago, a women’s rights lawyer sued a major department store for segregating their toy area into ‘boys’ and ‘girls’ sections. Now, you hardly ever see that distinction made with signs – you can just tell by the types of toys each aisle holds.

Gender-Neutral Toys

Some experts advise giving gender-neutral toys to children, and then letting the child pick his or her own toys once they’re old enough to indicate interest. Some parents will give their children a mix of toys and allow them to pick the ones they like to play with. For example, they’ll give their toddler girl some dolls along with trucks and toy tools. This kind of choice allows for the child to develop their own gender identity, and is generally considered the healthiest way of dealing with the situation.  The idea that type of toy is exclusively for a boy or a girl has become old-fashioned. Children also go through stages of interest for various items. Sometimes a boy will show an interest in a baby doll for a few weeks, and then completely forget about it. Or a girl might like her sandbox toys, but only as long as it takes for her to see whether or not playing construction is her thing. In family life, children often imitate their parents’ profession by roleplaying with toys; if dad’s a carpenter, the girl might have an interest in toy tools.

New Parents: What to Expect

When many couples find out they are expecting their first child they are ecstatic – especially if they were trying for a baby. However, as the initial excitement wears off and the due date gets closer and closer, many of these parents begin to get anxious because they don’t know exactly what to expect when the little one arrives. All they know is that their lives will be forever changed. Below a few changes you should expect to happen when the baby arrives. You will also find tips for how to deal with these changes.

Lack of Sleep: Since your little one has been inside the womb for nine months, his sense of time will most likely be off. In addition to that, your little one will need to eat every 2-3 hours, which will make for some long nights. This is why it’s important that you take advantage of the times that the baby is asleep. Don’t use this time to do housework or laundry. Instead, use it to sleep!

Routine Changes: Of course the baby’s sleeping habits will affect your daily routine, but you will also notice that every routine you have will be affected by the baby. For example, you will need to adjust how much time you need in the morning to get ready to leave the house, when you schedule doctor’s appointments, how you go about grocery shopping and a host of other things. The key to this is to be flexible with your schedule and understand it won’t be this way forever.

Relationship Changes: It’s amazing that a baby can change so much. The relationship you have with your partner will change along with everything else. You will both be tired and trying to get used to your new routines and that will have an impact on your relationship. This is why it’s important that you and your partner continue to reserve time to spend alone together.

Teaching Tidiness to Your Child Begins Early

Tidiness is a quality in your children that you will absolutely appreciate, but teaching it can really seem like a chore. One of the best things that you can do is teach tidiness to your children early so that it can develop with them over time. One of the best things that you can do is teach your children the concept of tidiness when they are very young, and give them some responsibility that can grow up with them.

Toddlers are typically more eager to play than anything else, so think about turning chores into a game to help them along. Just before nap time, or before bed, make a game out of putting the toys away, cleaning up the playroom or clearing the toys out of the bedroom. Give each child a basket and see who can clean up more toys fastest, or offer a sticker for each toy that is put away properly. There are many different incentive games that you can use to make teaching tidiness an easy task for young children.

As your children get a little older, they will generally have an interest in what mommy and daddy do. Let them help you with the housework, especially easy tasks like tidying up cushions, sweeping the kitchen, putting away the groceries and other things that small hands can easily help with. They will typically take an interest in helping you, which will allow you to get some much needed assistance while teaching your children about responsibility. Teaching tidiness early on is definitely beneficial, as a child that appreciates a clean play room or a clean bedroom will grow into a child that enjoys helping around the house and completing chores.

Teaching tidiness to your children should happen early so that the concepts can grow with your child over time. Do not wait until your child is grown to explain the concept of cleaning a room or putting away one’s things. Your child should develop pride in having a clean room and nice things, and this is something that you can instill in them early on in toddlerhood.
