Guide for New Parents – Part 6 Your First Day Out

You may be staying in your house for the first couple of weeks of your baby’s life, but eventually you’re going to want to get out. Here are some tips that you can use when you journey your first time out with your baby.

  • Bring a Friend – The first thing that you want to do is bring a friend or a family member who has some experience. This could be your mom, a sister, your best friend, or anyone.  This is going to help you to stay calm and give you an extra set of hands.
  • Baby Friendly – The second thing that you want to do if you are going somewhere by yourself is to go somewhere that will be baby friendly. This is going to make the experience more positive for you and the baby and make you less frazzled.
  • Bring a Spare – The third thing that you want to do is to bring a change of clothes for you and the baby.  You never know what’s going to happen with a baby and the last thing that you want to do is to walk around with stains all over your clothes.
  • Be Flexible – Finally, you want to make sure that you are flexible.  The plans that you have need to be simple and you should know that you may have to leave sooner than expected.  The baby is in charge and when he or she wants to go you have to go.

You should remember that every new mom goes through this and that they survive it.  You are going to survive as well. It’s going to get easier each time you do it and soon you’ll look forward to it.

Guide for New Parents – Part 3 Soothing a Fussy Newborn

One of the things that you are going to discover is that it’s hard to figure out what your baby wants when he or she is crying. Sometimes the baby just wants to be soothed and feel comforted. Here are some of the ways that you can sooth your baby.

  • Mimic Feelings and Sounds in the Womb – The first thing that you can do to make a baby feel better is to mimic what she heard and what she felt in the womb. This is done by swaddling the baby, making shushing sounds, and holding the baby on her side.  You should also allow the baby to suck, since she did that in the womb too.  All of these things can help to calm a fussy baby.
  • Play Music – The second thing that you want to do is to play some soothing music.  There are CDs that are made specifically for babies and they are going to have a calming influence on her.
  • Warm it Up – The third thing that you want to do is to make things warmer, especially if your baby cries when she’s being changed.  One of the things that you can do is make some warm wipes with paper towels and warm water in a thermos that can be pumped. There are also wipe warmers that run on electricity.
  • Take a Bath – If you’ve run out of tricks and the baby’s stub fell off, you can take a nice warm bath with her.  This is also going to relax you and when you’re relaxed your baby will be relaxed.  It’s a good idea to do it when someone’s home though so that they can take the baby out of your arms so you can stand up carefully and safely

Now that the baby is soothed, the next set of tips are specifically written for the new dads.

Finding Guidance Throughout Your Pregnancy

Pregnancy is likely the most confusing and scary time in a woman’s life. With motherhood being the most important job a woman could ever hold, the pressure can be immense and pregnancy is the beginning of that. As your life transitions from that of individual to parent, nine months will likely feel as though it’s taking forever but also like it could never possibly be enough time to make the shift. Fortunately, there are plenty of helpful resources online where you can go to process and figure out this big time.

With so many bizarre and unexpected changes happening both psychologically and physically, a pregnancy guide can be an invaluable tool that can help you along each and every step in your growth. A week by week guide can be a lot of fun for couples to track together. You will find out each week how big your baby is with an object size comparison from a poppy seed to a lentil to a peanut and on to a spaghetti squash. Being able to picture exactly how big your little bundle is can be mind blowing and thrilling. It’s also extremely calming to know that your current symptoms are likely extremely normal, even if the women in your life never ventured to warn you about them. Knowing the medical milestones during the gestation cycle can be extremely valuable as well. If you know which symptoms are benign and which are cause for concern then you will know exactly when and if something is wrong and can get the proper help.

A pregnancy guide that you can easily find online can also help you know about the best ways to take care of yourself from trimester to trimester. As your baby grows, different physiological aspects of them develop at different periods. Knowing what stage of development your baby is in can help you make adjustments in your diet to benefit you and your baby best.

When many couples find out they are expecting their first child they are ecstatic – especially if they were trying for a baby. However, as the initial excitement wears off and the due date gets closer and closer, many of these parents begin to get anxious because they don’t know exactly what to expect when the little one arrives. All they know is that their lives will be forever changed. Below a few changes you should expect to happen when the baby arrives. You will also find tips for how to deal with these changes.

Lack of Sleep: Since your little one has been inside the womb for nine months, his sense of time will most likely be off. In addition to that, your little one will need to eat every 2-3 hours, which will make for some long nights. This is why it’s important that you take advantage of the times that the baby is asleep. Don’t use this time to do housework or laundry. Instead, use it to sleep!

Routine Changes: Of course the baby’s sleeping habits will affect your daily routine, but you will also notice that every routine you have will be affected by the baby. For example, you will need to adjust how much time you need in the morning to get ready to leave the house, when you schedule doctor’s appointments, how you go about grocery shopping and a host of other things. The key to this is to be flexible with your schedule and understand it won’t be this way forever.

Relationship Changes: It’s amazing that a baby can change so much. The relationship you have with your partner will change along with everything else. You will both be tired and trying to get used to your new routines and that will have an impact on your relationship. This is why it’s important that you and your partner continue to reserve time to spend alone together.
