Are You Always Cooking?

You have a large family coming over for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Actually, they also come over for Easter and summer holidays, too. You’re the matriarch of your family, and even your siblings come over with their children to get together at your house.

In fact, you enjoy cooking for your family and it’s one of your greatest joys.

The problem is that you never seem to have enough space in your refrigerator to buy your food in bulk, you need to cut costs, and you need to make your kitchen comfortable to be in.

In regards to cutting costs, the recent sale on chicken would have saved you $100 if you had space in your freezer, and you would be really comfortable preparing large meals with that chicken if you had some calm wall colors and a small hdtv for background noise.

And the recent sale on apples could have saved you $40 if you had more room in your refrigerator. If that’s how much you could have saved this month, imagine how much this adds up to over the year!

If that is the situation you’re caught in, then commercial refrigeration units are something you should seriously look into. Many families in the same situation have found that they had enough space in their kitchen for a larger refrigerator, but they didn’t know where to buy one. The local appliance dealer usually doesn’t carry such units, but you can buy commercial refrigeration units at restaurant supply stores.

Most restaurants use energy efficient units for bulk foods that need to be kept cold. Sometimes your home becomes a hotel or restaurant for large family gatherings. It’s time to face reality and do what the professionals do.

If you don’t have room for a larger refrigerator, then definitely consider purchasing an extra freezer that you can keep elsewhere in the house. Do the math and see how much you can save by purchasing a commercial refrigeration unit.

You can show your husband, and he will be impressed. You can continue to host large family gatherings, knowing that you have saved money and are doing so out of generosity, rather than feeling guilty for spending so much!

Top Ways to Fight Spring Allergies

Runny noses, itching eyes, and persistent coughing can all be ways your body reacts to spring allergies. Typically occurring from late February to May, spring allergies have a few common causes. The most likely is tree pollen, but others include mold, mildew, pet dander, and dust. If you suffer from allergy symptoms, learn how to fight back.

Keep Allergens to a Minimum

Cleaning your house to remove allergens can help reduce indoor symptoms. Taking off shoes and coats by the door can keep your family from tracking allergens through the house. Here are some other things you can do:

  • Vacuum and mop floors.
  • Use cleaning agents to keep mildew and mold from developing in bathrooms and kitchens.
  • Change your furnace and air conditioner filters often to keep dust out of your home’s air ducts.
  • Wash your bedding and any stuffed animals your children sleep with at least once a week.

Keep an Eye on the Pollen Count

If your springtime allergies occur because of tree pollen, be sure to limit your outdoor exposure. Most areas with high levels of pollen will issue pollen counts to help alert residents to the amount of pollen in the air on a daily basis. Keep an eye on those numbers and stay inside on days with higher counts. If you go outside, wear sunglasses to keep pollen out of your eyes.

Rinse Nasal Passages With a Saline Solution

You can find a variety of devices to use to clear allergens from your nasal passages. Rinsing your nasal cavities can help get rid of the allergens before they can cause your body to react. It can also help alleviate congestion caused by allergies. When mixed correctly, saline solutions will gently clear your nose without causing an uncomfortable burning sensation.

Alleviate Symptoms With Allergy Medication

Sometimes you need a little help to control your allergy symptoms. You have several medications you can choose, including the following ones:

  • Over-the-counter antihistamines,
  • Over-the-counter decongestants,
  • Over-the-counter corticosteroids,
  • Prescription-strength antihistamines, and
  • Prescription-strength nasal sprays and eye drops.

Before you start buying medications, check with your doctor. She may want to test what you are allergic to so you know exactly what to avoid. A doctor can also recommend medications to prevent allergy symptoms from developing.

Calm Your Body’s Reaction to Allergens

If your doctor has tested you for allergies and knows what triggers your allergic reaction, he may be able to calm your body’s reaction to it through a process that exposes you to a small amount of the allergen over a set period of time. Known as immunotherapy, the treatment relies on injecting purified allergens into your body. The treatment method usually takes several years to complete. If it is successful, your body may no longer react to an allergen. It may sound like a lengthy process, but it’s much better than a lifetime of seasonal misery.

Springtime allergies can develop at any age. If you start to notice symptoms, check with your doctor to see what you can do to fight back. Health services are available for those who are interested. There’s no reason to suffer through one of the most pleasant seasons.

What Does One Fashion Celeb Say About Bullying?

What’s the appropriate way to get the message of good behavior across to kids in a school? Does it differ from the way it’s sent at home? Should it differ at all? These days parents and educators alike are facing an increasing problem with how to tell kids to stay in line, and how to get them to listen to authority and take punishment in order to make positive changes.

Mark Ecko, founder of the wildly successful Ecko Unlimited, has his own views and opinions on the issue of bullying and corporal punishment in the schools. His opinion? It doesn’t work and it never will. The truth is that kids are only taught to be more aggressive by being hit by parents, educators, and peers.

The issue of bullying is one that has been around forever. It seems though that in the last decade, with the access of the Internet and the fact that everyone is connected, it’s easier for most kids to be bullied. However, there are many organizations and prominent figures, such as Ecko, that are speaking out against those who bully and are calling for a change.

In Ecko’s Op-Ed piece that he wrote for the Huffington Post, he calls out the teachers and school administrators who hit children. While it might not appear to be on the same level of the abuse a child might experience in the home, the fact is that this form of punishment just never seems to work. So, in some ways it’s not about getting rid of violence, but rather taking the time to come up with more effective ways to discipline a child.

It’s a bold move for someone as popular with the teen market, as Mark is, to take such a strong social stance against these actions. But it’s also one that should make parents proud their children wear clothes made by a guy who knows no kid should be bullied.

Discovering the True Dream

It’s a quest for perfection — you’re seeking a world without worry, its boundaries tamed by white picket fences, its hours all easy. You want the flower box simplicities and apple pie routines. Every day is to be devoted to all-American ideals. Every grin is to be offered freely. You wish for a family without flaw and a life without tedium.

Such a wish is — sadly — impossible.

The years cannot be defined to gardens and gazebos, the eager innocence. They must instead be understood as real — with faults and misconceptions, broken promises and tensions. The process of living is not an easy one.

It is, however, more vital because of it.

There is no such thing as perfection. This is a truth so many parents fear. They wonder if they’ll ever achieve success with children who demand more than they can give. But accomplishing a happy home does not require the sterile seconds (bland and inoffensive). It instead simply needs communication, forgiveness and (much) laughter.

Your family is shaped by its joys, its tragedies, and its domestic moments. All of these tangle together to form lives — you must then seek to fill them with as much amusement as you can manage, countering all concerns with humor and compassion. Accidents will occur; anger will spark. These are certainties in a very uncertain world. But, if you’re willing to speak with your children and truly listen to their opinions, you will be able to undo any problems.

Seek open dialogues, easy laughter and endless acceptance. Don’t cling to past wrongs or future worries. Don’t begrudge the occasional monotony (it’s bound to happen). Instead understand the meaning of family: to love and be loved. Gain trust through communication; gain respect through honesty; and ensure all memories are shaded happy by offering your time and your energy.

There can be no perfection. There can, however, be a new (better) American dream.

Start Family Life in One of the Great Phoenix Apartments

When it comes to having a great home for your family, there are all kinds of places you can live. Houses, condos, apartments, and townhouses are all out there for you to choose as places to raise your kids and enjoy your life. Whether you have young kids, older children, or are just starting up your family, make sure you look around for the best place to live. Your budget will affect that to some extent, of course, but there will be many choices that you can afford. You’ll want to consider a lot more than price. There’s the neighborhood in general, the schools, how close you are to things like shopping and work, the crime rate, and a multitude of other factors.

Don’t just assume that you can find a place right away, either. Take some time to look around at all of the great Phoenix apartments out there, what you get for your money, and the long-term plan for the area. If you live where there’s a lot of open land, it could build up and raise the property values. It could also block your great view, so think about the issues that could show up later, instead of only worrying about what’s going on right when you buy or rent your new place.

You should find a great school district for your kids, or for them to go into when they get old enough, because you want them to have the best education possible. Some public schools are better than others in things like their teacher/student ratio and the money they spend on each student, so be sure to ask around and find out that kind of information. No matter where you choose to live, you’ll be able to find a great place with a little bit of research and effort.
